  • God’s Word: A two-edged sword
  • “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and. What is the difference in the word "soul," and that of the "spirit," as these terms are used in the Bible? There is much interest in this question - and, indeed. Is the spirit part of the soul, or are the two entirely separate? difference soul spirit. Question: The word spirit refers only to the immaterial facet of humanity.

    Soul Spirit The &

My spirit is the same as your spirit. It is what Hinduism calls the Atman, the Self, and it is literally one and the same in essence and identity as the Supreme Spirit, the Supreme Self. Each Divine Spark is one and the same in essence and identity as the Divine Fire but it has to evolve through the mineral kingdom, the vegetable kingdom, the animal kingdom until eventually — at the end of its journey through the animal kingdom — it gains and acquires for itself a SOUL.

The soul, unlike the spirit, is an individual thing. It is a permanent entity after it has been unfolded out of the spirit and is the self-conscious individuality or Ego which incarnates and reincarnates in the human kingdom and beyond. It is the Consciousness Principle, the Mind Principle, in man. The soul is actually the same thing as the mind.

We should not make the mistake of thinking that the mind and the brain are the same thing because they are not. The brain is simply a physical organ and the mind is the individual soul which thinks and expresses itself through, and with the aid of, that organ. We have a different brain in each lifetime because we have a different physical body each lifetime but the mind is the same each time. It can only express itself partially and the extent to which it does so is determined by its Karma and level of evolution and development.

The soul reincarnates but the spirit does not. Souls are many but spirit is essentially ONE. No spiritual philosophy in history has ever claimed that it is the spirit which reincarnates. Spirit never has any direct connection or contact with the physical form. One reason for this is that it is so subjective that it can have no direct or tangible relation with the objectivity of matter. To rebecome this in consciousness, to consciously merge and permanently unite the soul with the Spirit, is to achieve and attain Yoga Union and this is the great goal of all.

There is no excuse in this day and age for our confusing soul and spirit when the difference and distinction between the two has been so clearly and definitely explained and shown in the esoteric spiritual teachings of the world and more recently in the teachings of Theosophy, particularly the writings of H. The soul is the meeting point; here the spirit and the body join. He communicates with the outside world of senses through the body; the world and the body interact with one another.

The soul lies in between these two worlds and belongs to these two worlds. On the one hand, it communicates with the spiritual realm through the spirit, and on the other hand, it communicates with the physical world through the body.

The soul has the power of self-determination; it can make decisions concerning the things related to it in the environment and can choose or reject them. It is impossible for the spirit to control the body directly; it requires a medium. This medium is the soul, which was produced when the spirit touched the body. The soul is in between the spirit and the body; it binds the spirit and the body together as one.

The body can also induce the spirit through the soul to love the world. Among the three elements of man, the spirit is joined to God and is the highest. The body is in contact with the material world and is the lowest.

In between the two is the soul. It takes as its nature the nature of the other two. As such it becomes the linkage of the other two parts. Through the soul the two parts can fellowship with each other and can work together. The function of the soul is to maintain the spirit and the body in their proper order so that they will not lose their proper relationship with one another.

In this way, the body, which is the lowest, will submit to the spirit, and the spirit, which is the highest, will be able to control the body through the soul. The soul is indeed the chief element in man.

The soul looks to the spirit for the supply which the latter has received from the Holy Spirit and communicates to the body what it has received so that the body may partake of the perfection of the Holy Spirit and become a spiritual body.

The body is the lowest and remains outside. The soul dwells between the spirit and the body and is the medium of the two. The body is the outer shell of the soul, while the soul is the outer shell of the spirit. When the spirit tries to control the body, it has to do so with the help of the intermediary soul.

Before man fell, it was the spirit through the soul that controlled the whole being. When the spirit wanted to do something, it communicated to the soul, and the soul activated the body to follow the order of the spirit.

This is what it means for the soul to be the medium. The soul is potentially the strongest part because both the spirit and the body are incorporated into it, take it as their personality, and are affected by it.

But in the beginning, man had not sinned, and the power of the soul was fully under the control of the spirit. Hence, the power of the soul was the power of the spirit.

WHEN you hear the terms “soul” and “spirit,” what comes to your mind? Many believe that these words mean something invisible and immortal that exists inside. Until we understand the difference between soul and spirit and how they relate to our physical body, the Bible will be much more confusing than necessary. Q. Photographer: Kristina Kaine Thomas Moore had some great things to say about the difference between the human soul and the human spirit.

Religious or not, most people believe they have some form of a soul. Whether they loosely believe in a concept like “the human spirit,” or they.
