I am trying not to move my face at all right now. I am communicating with a whiteboard. I am wondering if anyone has been put on a short duration of prednisone with trileptol or another anticonvulsant for a flare up? I am so sorry about your pain. I have other issues that can really make my TN go out of control. I have been put on prednisone for those and my pain has improved. I know that helped me. I am sorry to say that every person is different. There seems to be no rhyme or reason with TN.
Have you tried any pain killers? I hate to take them but they save my life. Some days I can't even think enough to boil water let alone make dinner. Pain killer make the difference between being a mom and being a burden on my family. Be careful of holding your face tight. I did that for a while and it really hurt my jaw for months after the flare up of TN.
She said that I was clenching. Wish someone had told me about that. Now I check and make sure that I dont clench, I dont want things to get worse. Keep bothering your DR if you dont get relief. I also had dentist issues. I had the new digital xrays 3 weeks ago and I am still not doing well.
They wanted me to call and schedule a cleaning. I can not do that I dont think I would make it. Please let me know how things go or if you need to talk. You are not alone. Hi, Thank you for responding. I did take half a pain pill tonight.
I am trying to get to the right professional to deal with my health problems. I have seen dentists, endodontists, and an oral surgeon. The oral surgeon was absolutely no help. I have referrals to a neurologist and pain care center. I guess I need to see someone who deals with atypical facial pain? It can be very depressing.
I hope the neurolgist can help. I will keep posting. I just don't know how long it will take to get in to him or her. Hello, I, too, am new. They both told me it was TN. Finally, I got an appt with a Neurologist.
He put me on Lyrica 50mg x 3 day. Pain is in control now, except I still can't eat anything on the left side. I have been on it for about 1 month. I am trying to get an appt with a Neurologist who does the gammaknife procedure. Hopefully, that will help to get fairly back to normal. Lots of Hugs DD. Hi Snowbird, Thank you for responding.
It is good to know there are people out there to talk to. Is this your diagnosis? I have a referral to a neurologist. Was told I have TMJ. But that this is not resposible for shhoting pains. I am going to google Lyrica.
What are your TN symptoms? How are they different from TMJ? I have shhooting pains in teeth and face. Shelley, your symptoms are similar to mine. My family Dr put me in the hospital and got me an MRI and morphine. It also made Neuro deal with me right away. My family Dr also told not to let my pain get out of hand.
She said that you have to get on top of it. She has been helpful. When it comes to neuro they need to see you right away and sometimes they have long waiting lists. Lyrica is a drug that was is used for fibromyalgia. It is a pain med that can really help. I had a side effect from it and could not take it. Which anti convusant were you put on. It should have started helping by now. Tegretol is usually used first. TMJ is a joint issue. That can cause pain in the jaw , neck and face.
The shooting pain is TN. I wish I didnt know all this. If you have not had an MRI you need to get one. Your family Dr can order the MRI even before you see the neuro. If you are not one to be pushy this is the time to get pushy with anyone you talk to.
Let me know how things go. Keep asking questions and we will keep answering. Hi Julioso,Well, I was put on Gabapetin 3 yrs. I walked around for awile and it came back. I was In Mass General for 10 days. It took some time but I fully recovered. I weaned off Cymbalta this past May. I was down to mg. Gabapentin down from mg. I was feeling great. Then three years later started the tooth problems. Three teeth ached on one side. It would go on and off. I went to see the dentist he did a root canal 2 and half hours It failed he extracted the tooth.
Both jaws and face start hurting. I had some more work done on teeth on other side of mouth. Face muscles start spasming. Tooth next to tooth extracted hurts have root canal on that tooth. The root canaled tooth still hurts. This is why the endodontist put me on the medrol dose pack. Different teeth have shhoting pains in them. This is all in the span of the last two months. I am on Gabapentin from the previous neuropathy from food poisoning. I never totally weaned off.
